8/25/07 Vegas
to Reno
The Teixeira
Racing desert race team, Ed Teixeira and Todd Hunter, took 1st place in
the Quad Expert class, and 3rd Quad overall in the Best in the Desert
“Vegas to Reno” race on August 24, 2007. The race started in Las Vegas,
NV and ended 567 miles away in Reno, NV. This is the longest off-road
race in the USA. It took the Teixeira team 12 hours and 28 minutes to
complete this brutal race!
The team
started the race 12th off the start line, riding a Teixeira Tech built
Honda 450R in its debut race. The first half of the race was a cloud of
dirt and silt, leaving a lot of quads broke down on the course. The
Teixeira Honda barreled through with no incident, switching riders at
every other pit and gaining a steady lead in the Expert Class. A rear
flat tire was changed at pit 11, and lights were mounted on at pit 14.
Ed rode the final two sections, bringing the quad to the finish line
just after the sun went down.
This win puts
Ed and Todd in the lead for the BITD Silver State Series Championship,
with only three races to go. The next race in the series is the Las
Vegas “300” on October 6, 2007.

Terrible's Town "250"
The
Teixeira Tech ATV off-road race team of Ed Teixeira and Jason Sparks
placed 2nd at the Best in the Desert Terrible’s Town “250”.
This was race #2 in the Silver State Series.
The team started the race 15th off the start line, riding a Teixeira
Tech built KTM 520 quad. Battling through a wall of dust, Jason
passed several quads, bringing the KTM into pit 2 in 7th place with a rear
flat tire. After an impact wrench malfunction in the pit, the team
dropped down to 9th. Ed rode the next section, passing more quads
and pulling up to 5th place.
By pit 6, the team had moved into 3rd place and held steady until
Pit 8, where Ed handed off the KTM to Jason in 2nd place. Jason
hopped on for the last and most brutal section of the race, crossing the
finish line in 2nd place with a right front flat.
Overall, Ed and Jason felt they had a great race, and look forward
to race #3, the TSCO Vegas to
Reno
in August

Nevada 1000
The Teixeira Tech ATV off-road race team of Ed Teixeira and Jason
Sparks, had a disappointing, early end to the McMillin Nevada 1000.
This was the third race in the Best in the Desert 2005 Silver State
Series, which the Teixeira Tech team had a second place position overall
in class points prior to going into this race.
The
McMillin Nevada 1000 is a grueling, four day, 1000 mile desert race,
starting in Beatty, NV, and ending in
Tonopah
,
NV
. The team had their KTM 520 custom quad prepped, as well as a
back-up quad ready to strip parts from if needed. Both Teixeira and
Sparks
felt prepared to battle the long distance in the brutal
Nevada
desert.
Day 1 of the race,
Sparks
rode the quad into pit 5 and reported to Teixeira that they had lost third
gear. This slowed the team down in the tight sections of the course,
and Teixeira and
Sparks
finished in 4th place for the day. The team prepped the quad with the help
of fellow racers and sponsors, Allen Knowles, Todd Hunter, Kevin Avina,
and Nic Granlund, before sending the quad to impound for the night.
Day 2 started off bad, with Jason Sparks getting a front flat tire
early on.
Sparks
had to ride 49 miles on the flat before reaching the next pit. The
team also thought the clutch was going out around pit 4. Turns out
the hydraulic clutch was leaking oil somehow, and the pit crew continued
to put oil in at every pit. Ed Teixeira was riding the last section
when the stator went out around mile marker 295. The pit crew was
able to send him out another stator, which Ed quickly replaced and got
back on the course. By mile marker 310, the KTM cut out again.
Teixeira determined there was no spark to the motor and tried everything
to get the quad going again. Unfortunately, it turned out to be
electrical problems, and Teixeira was stuck in the
Nevada
desert until his crew retrieved him around 10:00pm. It was the
end of the race for Ed and Jason.

Oceano
Dunes – October 23, 2004
Teixeira
Tech Racing had a first place finish at Le Pismo Dunes Endurance Beach Race
at
Oceano Dunes SVRA on Saturday, October 23,
2004.
Teixeira
Tech Team member, Jason Anderson, raced in
the Pro Class on a Yamaha YFZ 450. He had the holeshot, but fought to
stay ahead of team mate Ed Teixeira
on his KTM 520 in a 250R frame.
The KTM out horse-powered the YFZ, but a
seat malfunction put Teixeira down and gave
Anderson an 8 minute advantage. Cain Smead got a late start off the
line, but opened up his YFZ and moved into
second place. Anderson ended with a
first place finish, with Teixeira close
behind in fourth place.

Terrible's Town "250"
The
ATV off-road racing team of Ed Teixeira,
Jason Sparks and new addition, Cyle Chislock,
placed 2nd in the Expert class at the
Terrible’s Town "250" on April
24, 2004. The race was held in
Pahrump, NV, the second race of the Best in
the Desert 2004 Silver State Series.
The
team rode an Arens framed Honda TRX 250R
built by Ed Teixeira, with a CT Racing 310
Nikasil powervalve motor kit. The
Honda was equipped with a Teixeira Tech X²
a-arm suspension kit, including Custom Axis
Shocks and a Teixeira Tech steering stem for
reduced bump steer. For more
information on the Teixeira Tech desert
racing quad, see
www.teixeiratech.com
After
finishing contingency and tech inspection
early on Friday, the team did routine
testing on the 250R and found signs of motor
problems. Ed and Jason tried different
jetting and a new plug, but still couldn’t
determine the problem. With no other
options, Ed put in a call to Allen Knowles
of CT Racing. Within minutes, Allen
determined it was electrical and the team
made the necessary adjustments.
Saturday
morning at the Terrible’s Town “250”,
Jason Sparks started the race eighth off the
line. With the CT motor running great,
Jason passed two quads and came in sixth to
pit #1. Ed Teixeira hopped on,
continuing to pass up the competition and
bringing the quad into pit #2 in fifth
place. New rider, Cyle Chislock, took
the next section in his first desert race,
riding hard and helping the team close the
gap even more. By mile marker 208, the
Honda TRX 250R was still running flawlessly,
the Maxxis tires were holding strong with
ZERO flats, and Ed brought the quad into pit
#8 right behind first place. Jason
Sparks rode the last section, battling hard
against the rockiest part of the race, and
finishing in a well fought for 2nd Place.
And out of the 35 quad entries (17 Pros, 12
Experts and 6 Amateurs), Ed, Jason and Cyle
finished 5th Place Overall.
The
next race in the series is “Vegas to
Reno” in June 2004. For more

Vegas "200"
The
Teixeira Tech/CT/Avina Prep ATV off-road
racing team of Ed Teixeira (Tracy, CA) Shane
Strunk (Phoenix, AZ), and Jason Sparks
(Sparks, NV) won the 2003 Class Championship
after placing 2nd in Best in the Desert’s
Vegas “200”, the sixth and final event
in the 2003 Silver State Series.
The
team rode a Honda TRX 250R built by Teixeira
Technologies and race prepped by Kevin Avina
(Avina Prep). The Honda was equipped with an
aluminum frame and the new Teixeira Tech
desert X² a-arm suspension kit, including
Custom Axis Shocks and a Teixeira Tech
steering stem for reduced bump steer.
The
Teixeira Tech Racing team was the seventh
quad expert off the starting line. Jason Sparks rode the first section
of a 72 mile loop and was the fifth expert
quad to arrive at the alternate pit. Shane Strunk hopped on to ride the
next section, passing another quad to arrive
fourth into the main pit. With a quick fuel up and rider
change, Ed Teixeira rode hard, passing
another rider before arriving at the
alternate pit.
The
team continued a series of rider changes and
battled hard against Q80 for first place,
falling behind only due to a lost rear brake
bolt. The
Teixeira Tech Race Team finished 2nd Place,
with enough points to win the 2003 Class
Championship.

Baja Mex "300"
The
Teixeira Tech/CT/Avina Prep ATV off-road
racing team of Ed Teixeira (Tracy, CA) and
Shane Strunk (Phoenix, AZ) placed 4th
in Best in the Desert’s Baja Mex
“300”, the fifth quad event in the 2003
Silver State Series.
The
team rode an aluminum framed Honda TRX 250R
built by Teixeira Technologies. Kevin
Avina (Avina Prep) prepared the CT 310
Nikasil powervalve motor kit, which included
gaskets by Gaskets Only. The Honda was equipped with the new
Teixeira Tech X² a-arm suspension kit,
including Custom Axis Shocks and a Teixeira
Tech steering stem for reduced bump steer. For more information on the Teixeira
Tech desert racing quad, see www.teixeiratech.com
Teixeira’s
team arrived early Saturday morning to the
staging area at the start line. When warming up the quad, they
noticed a substantial amount of sputtering. Ed and the team’s pit crew were
frantically trying to correct the jetting
while on the starting line. Allen Knowles, of CT Racing, was on
hand and determined the problem to be a bad
stator. Without a spare, the Teixeira
Tech/CT/Avina Prep team decided to run the
TRX 250R “as is” and try to finish the
race.
At
mile marker 11, the quad stalled and Ed
thought all was done for the day. After a thorough and frantic 45
minute inspection, Ed finally came to the
conclusion that the chain & case saver
were the culprits. Sand & grit had jammed between
the case saver, chain and case, which was
hidden behind the sprocket and caused the
chain to not let the sprocket rotate. After the delay, the quad was back on
the racecourse, putting the team in last
place.
At
pit #1, Ed stopped to fuel up and change a
badly damaged rear rim. It was smooth sailing through the
next section. A BIG “thank you” to the Johnson
Motorsports team for fueling up the quad at
pit #2!!
A
rider change happened at pit #3, with Shane
Strunk hoping on to ride the next three
sections. Leaving the pit in 5th
place, Shane battled hard against a sticking
throttle. He was able to move into 2nd
place, but ran out of gas just before the
alternate pit. Shane had to hike 2 miles for gas,
which dropped the team back to 4th
by the time he arrived at pit #6.
Ed
got back on the quad at pit #6. The quad was still suffering
from electrical problems and the sticking
throttle, but Ed held up the team’s place,
crossing the finish line in 4th.
The
Teixeira Tech Race Team is currently 1st overall in the 2003 Silver State
Series. The next race in the series is
the Las Vegas “200”. For more

website at www.bitd.com.

The
Teixeira Tech ATV off-road racing team of Ed
Teixeira (Tracy, CA), Jason Sparks (Sparks,
NV) and Shane Strunk (Phoenix, AZ) placed 2nd in Best in
the Desert’s TSCO “Vegas to Reno”, the

The
team rode an aluminum framed Honda TRX 250R
built by Teixeira Technologies. Kevin
Avina (Avina Prep) prepared the CT 265
Nikasil powervalve motor kit, which included
gaskets by Gaskets Only. The Honda was equipped with the new
Teixeira Tech X² a-arm suspension kit,
including Custom Axis Shocks and a Teixeira
Tech steering stem for reduced bump steer.
Teixeira’s
team started ninth off the line, and quickly
moved into third place. By pit #7 they were in 2nd, battling

Terrible's Town "250"
The
Teixeira Tech ATV off-road racing team of Ed
Teixeira, Shane Strunk and Shiloh Strunk
battled hard at the Terrible’s Town
“250”, the 3rd quad event of
the Best in the Desert 2003 Silver State
Series.
The
team rode an aluminum framed Honda TRX 250R
built by Ed Teixeira. CT Racing
prepared the 310 Nikasil powervalve motor
kit, and Kevin Avina was on hand at the race
for last minute prepping.
Ed
started the race as the 3rd expert quad off
the line. By mile 7, Ed had moved into 2nd
place. Bad luck struck the Teixeira Tech
team at mile marker 14, when the left rear
hub broke. After rigging extra weight to the
front of the 250R, Ed Teixeira road 17 miles
to pit #1 on three wheels! The pit crew quickly replaced the hub
and Shane Strunk hopped on for a quick 13
mile section to pit #2. Shiloh Strunk rode the next section
until mile marker 60, where the quad broke
down because of a blown radiator hose, a
chain reaction to the earlier complications
of the race.
Even
though the Terrible’s Town “250” race
was a disappointment, the Teixeira Tech Race
Team is still holding on to Second Place
Overall in the 2003 Silver State Series.
The next race in the series is the legendary
“Vegas to Reno”. For more

Shiloh Strunk placed 2nd at the KTM Parker "250" on January 4,
2003. The race was held in Parker, AZ, the first race of the Best in
the Desert 2003 Silver State Series.
The
team rode an aluminum framed Honda TRX 250R built by Ed Teixeira. CT
Racing's Allen Knowles and Kevin Avina prepared the 310 Nikasil powervalve
motor kit. The new aluminum attitude frame drew a lot of attention,
as it was the first one of its kind to be raced in the desert. The
team also was running GBC's Shredder R/T tires.
Ed started the race as the 5th expert quad off the line, riding the first
lap. With one stop for gas at the alternate pit, he proceeded with
no problems and was the third expert quad into the main pit. Shiloh
Strunk rode the second lap, coming back in as the second expert quad,
again with a quick stop for gas and no problems. Our team was only
minutes behind the first place team when Shane Strunk hopped on the Honda
to ride the last lap to the finish line. |
